Using Tenggerese Oral Folktales for Teaching Paragraph Writing: How Good Are the Students’ Composition?

چکیده

Indonesia is a nation that rich in cultural artifacts. One of the artifacts oral literature which spread across archipelago. This study intended to describe use documented local Indonesian folktales applied for paragraph writing class. The chosen was Tenggerese Pasuruan, East Java, Indonesia. used mixed-method design. subjects were 46 students English Education Study Program who joined class Universitas PGRI Wiranegara, Pasuruan. students’ assessed by using primary trait scoring rubric. result shows 98% able make topic sentence comparison and contrast paragraphs. Although most paragraphs (83%), half them still unable develop ideas well (52%). probable causes identified first, not given enough chance revise edit their composition, secondly, lacked details its story development. Yet, implies folklores have be as one teaching materials skill courses.
